Filmmaker Jami Denies Ties with Establishment against Dawn

0

Acclaimed filmmaker Jamshed Mahmood Raza aka Jami, has finally named his alleged rapist. Previously in October, the award-winning filmmaker had created a stir over social media with his revelations of being a victim of sexual assault. He took to Twitter to share his horrific ordeal and accused an unnamed “media Tycoon.” On December 28th Jami named the CEO of Dawn, Hameed Haroon as his alleged rapist.

Jami called out the leading media house on his Twitter account last Saturday. “Yes HAMEED HAROON Raped me. I’m ready now. Are you ready to print this @dawn_com,” he stated.

Hameed Haroon has also broken his silence and claimed that these are false and malicious allegation against him. The accusation had been leveled at the instigation of powerful interests in the state and society who want to promote their own repressive narrative.

However, Jami denied any backup of the Establishment or any agency. Responding to the backlash he posted a long statement on his twitter account where he denied the allegations.

Earlier in November, Jami mentioned that he had shared the details among his friends about the alleged incident and the perpetrator whom he held to be responsible, however, no one stood by his side.

He further added he only chose to make his ordeal public after the #MeToo movement in the country started to be discredited.

The Painful ordeal

Earlier in October Jami let out the whole incident in a series of tweets.  The whole narration was evident in what people have said to him when he first opened up.

However, people are mostly busy victim shaming and blaming Jami for not preventing rape. Instead of questioning the accused of why would he make someone go through such painful trauma. The situation Jami is going through also makes us wonder about the situation of harassment in the country. If the filmmakers like Jami are not safe from such a cruel act, how many are still silence because they do not have such privilege of speaking out.
